The unintended expatriate blogger behind VelvetLeafBloom

Hi there, I'm Chiara
I manage projects, am a parent, and am an expat living in Rome, Italy.
A couple of years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It All Began
Moving to Italy wasn't planned as part of the long view. Like many international relocations, it started with a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The early months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, shifting expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complicated than necessary.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of hands-on learning. But gradually, routines settled in. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt solid.
Why I Created VelvetLeafBloom
Most information online was either corporate relocation guidance or surface-level tourism material. What was missing was an honest, everyday family perspective.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Italy.
What This Site Represents (And What It Isn't)
This site covers:
- Hands-on experience from life in Italy
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever there is a meaningful change
This site is not:
- An official tourism authority resource
- A sponsored review platform
- A generic travel blog
Looking Forward
Our stay in Italy continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I will keep recording what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Rome or anywhere in Italy, don't hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Chiara
